We’re back, the first official race of the season with the exception of the Tyne Head back in late September. As we get back to racing we see eager juniors entering this category. With 7 crews entered this is going to be a clear view point on who and which crew has taken rowing by storm after Covid. As no spectators are allowed at the first competition it is going to be an unusual atmosphere for pairs head this weekend.
St Paul’s – Gillard / Kwok
First up, we have St Paul’s, as we already know how powerful they are in the junior mens rowing world, St Paul’s are most likely to be coming out in force this weekend. As seen on social media they have done many training over the UK lockdown, so they will be out in force as we get back to some sort of normality towards racing. These two athletes went into their J17 year with medals from Coupe de la Jeunesse and the Junior World Championships, and will be a top combination going forward.
Team Keane Sculling School – Russell Thompson / Scott
Second down the track is Team Keane. Team Keane is a developing club in London which involves all abilities around London which has been noticed around national junior competitions. Russel Thompson has been named Team Keane’s first boys captain for the club; this will bring experience and determination for this weekend as they hope to bag their first win of the season.
Emanuel School – Mead / Dangour
Emanuel School is one of the big private schools in the rowing world. As they head into a new season, these 2 will be out to impress this weekend. With this school club having some amazing facilities, like a state of the art rowing tank, there is no doubt these 2 will be highly trained for this weekend.
Prediction:
As the season has only just begun and for the obvious Covid situation, it is always hard to make a valid prediction from past results, this will be my prediction for this weekend.
1st: St Paul’s
2nd: Emanuel School
3rd: Team Keane
