Pairs head is one of the traditional ‘big’ races on the Tideway, with crews competing across a four kilometre stretch from Chiswick to Hammersmith Bridges (championship course in reverse with 3km cut off).
Norwich Rowing Club – NOR Burrows/NCR Richards – (211):
Norwich Rowing Club historically speaking has been very strong in the small boats in the J16 category over previous years, and I don’t expect any less from the boys entering this year; Burrows and Richard, there will a high amount of expectation on these lads shoulders to perform well at Paris Head.
Walton Rowing Club – WAL Wendell/Springett – (212) :
Walton Rowing club is one of these rowing clubs who seem to produce a lot of very competent scullers and rowers in a large amount of categories over the years, one of the older clubs yet still manages to produce a decent amount of competitive rowers over the years. The two boys Wendell/Springett will have some level of pressure from their established club, and undoubtedly some level of anticipation.
City of Bristol Rowing Club – CBR Benton/Martini – (213) :
I feel that it is important to mention this crew from City of Bristol rowing club. Who although are not very well known in rowing circles; certainly have been putting this clubs name on the map, managing to place in a A Final at Brit-champs during the summer and these lads, Benton/Martini will placed highly going into this race as one of the favourites
Team Keane Sculling School – TKC Adeyemi/Adeyemi (214) :
Of course Team Keane Sculling School needs to mentioned in this article, with this being their stretch of the river, this should be like any weekly time trial for anyone coming from Team Keane. These two twins should put on a strong performance for the club and for sure encouragement will be heard echoing down the river.
Other Crews:
There are multiple crews competing from the same club with all but three entering clubs entering a second boat, however one Club that could show a strong showing is the Maidenhead crew, who come from a boat club with a lot of history and there will be some anticipation placed on them to do well MAI Durys/Brades – (217). Other crews include 2 other Team Keane Sculling School Crews, who will be performing on local waters; TKC Gaskell/Wei – (214), TKC Caincross/Wood – (218). In addition another crew from Walton rowing club WAL Howells/Daines – (215) will be entering alongside Norwich School Boat Club NOS Sergent/Conway(219).
(Disclaimer, due to some technical complications I was unable to compile a comprehensive level of results from Britchamps, apologies )
My Predictions are:
- Norwich Rowing Club – NOR Burrows/NCR Richard (211)
- City of Bristol Rowing Club – CBI Benton/Martini (213)
- Walton Rowing Club – WAL Wendell/Springett(212)
