Pairs Head – Women’s Junior 16 Double

With a wide range of clubs attending and many who have raced and performed undoubtedly well in recent weeks, this weekend’s race is sure to be intense with 8 different boats battling it out for the win in WJ16 2x category at The Pairs Head 2021. Taking place on the Thames this should be a challenging race for technique and raw power to push through to the finish.

Maidenhead Rowing club

The crew of Ioras/Baines competed last weekend at Wallingford Long Distance sculls in the WJ16 4x and placed 5th amongst the nine crews racing. Baines competed in a double at JSR in may this year and made it into the A final, very narrowly missing out upon a medalling position, proving to be a strong asset to this Maidenhead crew.  Based upon their previous performance they should give us an impressive race on Saturday.

Emanuel School Boat Club

Emanuel has two boats competing under Parkins/Trevelyan-Clark and Brown/Molloy. Molloy and Parkin have each competed in the WJ16 1x at the Vesta Scullers Head recently, giving them a good start up into the head season. There is little knowledge on these two sculling crews, but with their training taking place on the Thames they should be used to the tough conditions, especially at this time of year.

Tideway scullers

Tideway scullers is a well known name in the rowing world and from previous races in this category we can expect a stellar race from these two girls. Little is known about them, but their extensive history as a successful club based on the Tideway is sure to bolster what we can expect from them.

Henley Rowing Club

Henley rowing club entered this particular crew into JSR in may earlier this year. Placing first in the A final they won with an impressive 28.46 second lead on Headington. With this type of racing history we can expect these girls to power through to the finish if they can keep up the stamina and apply their previous tactics!

Prediction

For this event we can expect to see Henley finish first, Maidenhead in second and Tideway scullers with a close third place. As for the other crews I expect Emanuel and Team Keane to finish closely along with the City of Bristol. Look out for Saturday’s WJ16 2x as it’s sure to be a close finish!
