Peterborough Head of Nene offers three divisions of racing across a long (5000m) and short (2600m) course. This is an excellent opportunity for crews to test out new combinations and see how beneficial their winter training has been. Let’s see who will cross the finish line the fastest.
Peterborough City Rowing Club
Having entered two crews into this category and being local to the course, these girls will undoubtedly be coming into this race confident. Their quad coming fifth in the B final at National School’s Regatta last season not only showcases their skill and strength but also their clear ability to compete amongst top-end junior crews.
Bedford Modern School
Bedford Modern School evidently have a good range of strengths across their junior women’s programme. With two quads only narrowly missing out on a qualification spot at Henley Royal Regatta these girls will be hoping to build on this and strengthen themselves during their winter training this season. Head of the Nene will prove to be a good indicator to the three crews entered and their coaches of how their progress so far is going. If they can bring this strength and expertise to the doubles, they will most likely be placing in the top three this weekend.
Northampton Rowing Club
With a successful 2024 season in the Junior Women’s doubles, culminating in a crew progressing to the Quarterfinal at the prestigious Henley Women’s Regatta, they clearly have had a solid season behind them and significant experience in the double – which will prove valuable in this race. With this evidenced hard work and teamwork, I’m sure these girls hope to continue this legacy into the 2025 season.
Prediction
Bedford Modern will certainly be the club to beat with its vast number of crews entering, but this definitely does not mean the top spot is secured. Northampton has strong evidence of an excellent programme which has proved itself over the last season. But will this continue into 2025? This weekend promised a thrilling race as the underdogs cannot be counted out for success. Each crew’s preparation will be tested, and we may see unexpected contenders rise. Only time will tell!
