Quintin Head 2018 – J15 8+

One of the traditional curtain raisers of the new year the Quintin Head is raced from the University Post at Chiswick to the Harrods Depositary and is an event soley for 8s. For many of these J15 crews this could well be the first time they have raced in the biggest boat of them all and all will be looking to make an impression over the 4600 course. The J15 category has 15 crews entered and with 11 of those being Tideway based crews, some tight racing can be expected in this event.

Kings College School Wimbledon

3 crews from KCS entered into this event and I think based and I think based on the crew names they are matched crews. I think all three of these crews will be strong, as KCS have had plenty of time in sweep boats, racing an 8 and 2 coxed fours at Teddington Head. This experience in a sweep boat, combined with Tideway experience should be good for these crews.

St Paul’s

Two crews entered from St Paul’s under the crew names X and Y. Coming from a production line of outstanding crews, St Paul’s are current holders of the J15 Ch8 from the National Schools Regatta. St Paul’s junior squads in particular don’t tend to do a lot of racing before the turn of the year so it is quite hard to gauge the speed of these crews relative to the rest of the field and one another. Saying this a J15 8 from St Paul’s came 3rd at the recent BASHER event hosted by Eton. There is a solid system in place already and these boys should be in good shape going into this race.

Westminster School

Another 2 boat entry and again both are named X and Y. Westminster are another of the powerhouses of the junior sweep rowing scene. Westminster put out two 8+s at Tedington Head and they finished 2nd and 4th and within 6 seconds of one another. Such consistency and depth should bode well for these boys and I expect them to be challenging for the win.

Dulwich College

Again two crews from a Tideway based school
