Quintin Head 2018 – WJ15 8+

For many crews this will be their first race of 2018, and so will be a good opportunity for crews to start preparing for the major races of this season such as Junior Sculling head. Quintin Head was founded in 2001 and with several route changes over the years the 2018 course is a relatively bendy one so will need some good steering from bowman.

Lady Eleanor Holles BC

At Peterborough Head over the summer months they achieved good results reaching the top few places in their categories, enabling them to have a strong start in the head season. Recently, however at Hampton Head they secured two crews in the top 10  which were some good results against the tough competition. They additionally had a good race at Pangbourne Head but faced difficult competition so didn’t place but they will have gained some knowledge of their competitor’s crews. Therefore putting them in a strong position to race on Saturday.

Henley RC

At Wallingford long distance sculls the girls won the quad event whilst a second crew on a shorter course narrowly missed out on winning their race. although so far this season they don’t seem to have entered many competitions they have previous strong results and Henley are known for producing good crews. This should therefore be an interesting race for them as I’m sure they will have been working hard in preparation for Junior Sculling Head which is soon coming up.

Putney High School BC

The girls were able to get off to a good start in the season with a win in their quad at Bedford regatta in October, However came only 5th and 6th at Teddington head in November. Recently though they have come second in the Hampton small boats head in November which was an impressive placement given the tough competition they were against with other clubs such as LEH and MAR. Their latest victory was this past weekend where they won at Weybridge Head which will give them a positive boost to move forward to this weekends head.

Emanuel BC

The girls competed at Bedford autumn Head in October however didn’t place in the top few but produced promising results to move forward with, but then only came 30th at Hampton head. Overall so far this season the girls haven’t produced massively good results but hopefully this weekend can give them a chance to up their game and challenge other crews.

Latymer BC

At Hampton head Latymer placed 5th and 10th in the quads which showed they were able to with stand some of the other strong competition in that category. They also came 1st and 10th at Pangbourne head earlier in 2017 towards the start of the head season. Despite not competing in many events this season it will be good to see how they fair against the other girls in their category as they all prepare for further races this season.

Predictions

I expect that Henley, Putney and Lady Eleanor Holles will be fighting for the top spots this coming Saturday s they have shown the most promising results so far.
