This season is starting to get more competitive for the J15s as they move from sculling to sweep and as the season progresses. With 14 crews entered into this event, this head race will show which college/school has taken up the sweep programme pretty easily.

Shiplake College (Humphris)

With Shiplake being a top performing school at many events, we will expect a strong result from these boys on Saturday. Last season Shiplake had an exceptional sculling season, with these boys getting a silver in the octuple at national schools and another silver in the quad at junior champs back in July. There are no recent results from this crew, so it will be interesting to see where they place on Saturday.

Latymer Upper School (Milburn)

Latymer, being one of the top schools that has rowing as one of their main sports, will give some healthy competition between the other leading schools. Just like Shiplake, Latymer has had some considerable success in sculling last season by coming 6th the at National Schools in the octuple. As well as many other schools, Latymer has not had any recent results this season.

Kings College School (Dumpty)

Kings College School has been known for their technical prowess at national competitions, this is shown in their junior eight results. In 2019 the School has new facilities such as a new sports hall, these new facilities will hopefully help them get results on the water.

St Paul’s School (Stephenson)

St Paul’s School is always known for their 8+ rowing at Henley, these J15 boys have started their journey of sweep rowing this season. Again, there is no recent results from this crew but has had an excellent sculling season last year. This is shown by coming out with a 4th place at national schools in the octuple and many other sculling successes throughout the rest of the season. St Paul’s have a tough but rewarding training programme, so this will see some close racing this Saturday.

Prediction

With basing off last seasons sculling results, this will what I would expect to see this Saturday.

1st – Shiplake College
2nd – King’s College School
3rd – St Paul’s School
