Out of the 17 boats racing in the J15 eights category at Quintin head this weekend we see the top six crews consist of high performing racers who have won numerous medals at places such as National Schools Regatta and whose schools have dominated the major competitions in junior rowing for the past few years.
St Paul’s School
St Pauls has 3 crews racing in this particular category and two of these are both in the top 6 boats making for an exciting race for the club supporters and coming from a well established school and boat club, consisting of wins from Henley Royal Regatta in 2015 and The Championship Eights at Nat Schools, they have an expected place cemented in the start order. The J15s in particular have won the eights category at Wallingford fours and eight head and then at Marlow regatta they came 1st, 2nd, and 5th once again in the eights, these crews should have plenty of knowledge on how to hold their own on the course.
Westminster
Of Westminster Schools two boats competing this weekend, their ‘On’ boat will be setting off second just behind St Paul’s School ‘Wild’ crew. With Westminsters reputation in rowing and their previous achievements at major events as a club combining, we should see a stellar race considering their starting position and perhaps a close call between them and St Pauls with the finish times.
Radley College
Radley College has 2 boats competing in the competition this weekend with one in the top six. As a firm competitor in the field this club has won back to back medals at major events such as Head of the Charles and National Schools Regatta. The J15 crews last year in the J14 eights category came home from National Schools Regatta with a gold medal for the team and hopefully they can pull off the same race at Quintin Head this year.
Reading blue coat school
Setting out 4th within the start order, Reading Blue Coat School should be a crew to watch battle it out for the top 3 places in this weekend’s head. Although not much is known about the crew and little is published of their achievements they have shown their face at multiple regattas and heads over these past few months as J15 racers, hopefully proving to be great racing experience.
Kings college school
King’s College School A boat will be competing within the top 6 this weekend. Not much is known about this particular crew but as a school they have good rowing results and with their location based upon the Thames they should have a great training ground to push ahead in the race against the tough competition.
Prediction:
I predict St Pauls School will come first with a close second place for Radley College and in third it will be Westminster.
