As the season starts to pick back up again, the Quintin Head will be held on Saturday, January 29th. This regatta, which will be raced on a 4600-meter course from Chiswick Bridge to Harrods Wharf, will only include eight-person boats. The Women’s J15 event will have a total of ten boats from six schools competing. Here is the breakdown:
Surbiton High School
The boat club of Surbiton High School has registered four boats for the upcoming regatta, making up almost half of the field. In this event of the Quintin Head 2020, they placed first place with a time of 17:02.8, beating out the Henley BC by more than ten seconds. They didn’t compete the year before, so it’s hard to say how their performance has changed over time. Even though they have less experience in the Quintin Regatta than the other boat crews, it’s safe to say that they will be contenders for the first place award this year.
Henley
Though Henley only has one boat registered, it’s performance in the past puts it at the top of the list for this race. In addition to winning the Quintin Hogg Memorial Prize for girls with an aggregate time of 50 min. 12.4 sec in 2020’s Quintin Head, their WJ15 crew earned second place out of ten with an impressive time of 17:15.9. The club’s female J15 team competed similarly well in the races of late 2021, winning the Marlow Regatta in the eight. This record certainly makes them one of the favorites going into this year’s Quintin Head.
Lady Eleanor Holles School
LEHS Boat Club has two boats competing in this race, and is going into it with a good record under its belt. Along with the other two schools on this list, Lady Eleanor Holles School did very well at 2020’s WJ15 8+ Quintin Head event, coming in at 17:48.2, 30 seconds behind Henley, earning them third place. The year before that, they beat out Henley by just four seconds in the same event. We’ll see which way this toss up goes this year.
Prediction
While all six schools competing in this event have a great shot at performing well, Surbiton’s record in this season and in past similar races, as well as their increased chances due to the number of boats participating, put it ahead of the pack. If they race as they have over the last few months, they will very likely take the win in this 8+ race.
