All of the Tideway racing glory has returned once again in the form of Quintin Head. Following its cancellation last year, the notorious Tideway head will see 250 crews going head-to-head to see who can start off 2022 with the title of fastest crew.
Oxford Brookes
It would be foolish to overlook Oxford Brookes University as serious a serious threat for fastest Women’s Senior crew. With the crews entered in this event being their second, third and fourth boats, their depth will show in their results. Some of these athletes will have been part of successful Brookes crews last season as BUCS ,HWR and HRR and they will be looking to replicate their successful 2021 with an even better 2022. In addition, new coach Hugo Gulliver will be keen to impress at the first marker this calendar year.
Tideway Scullers School
With one of the strongest club programmes in the UK for senior women, Scullers never fall too far off the mark at the major Tideway Heads. Fours Head saw these two Goliaths jostle for placings, but with both clubs entering Championship crews, it’s hard to know exactly what to expect.
Imperial
Imperial College London have chosen to enter their ‘A’ boat in this category, without the depth of UL or Brookes, it will definitely be a good challenge for the smaller club to top the Brookes second eight in this category,
City of Bristol
While not typically contenders in such events, City of Bristol have a strong entry across the board, with two in this event. Clearly a club with some depth, can they mix it with the London clubs and get a result here?
Prediction
Overall, it will be interesting to see which crews come on top in this year’s race; will the favourites Brookes dominate, or will there be an upset by Imperial, Scullers, or someone else. On balance, I can’t see beyond Brookes in this one. Either way, Quintin Head 2022 promises exciting racing and high quality of rowing.
