Reading University Head of the River 2019 – Women’s Junior 18 Eights

In this WJ18 8+ category at Reading Head, only three crews have entered to race the 4.6km into the centre of Reading. Despite this, all the crews will be looking to lay down some fast times and be as competitive as possible, so this will still be an interesting race.

Sir William Perkins School

The girls from Perkins have had a solid start to their season, with some good times at the Fours head in November from across the girl’s squad. Last season, Taylor was part of the Championship 8 that featured in the A final at National Schools’ Regatta. They could also potentially draw on the J4x- crew from last year’s Henley Women’s Regatta, who made it through to the quarter finals. They have a strong season as squad to build from and a reasonable start to this head season, they should be able to translate this into a fast time.

Sir William Borlase Grammar School

Borlase has a good reputation as a club and this is something these girls will be benefitting from and in terms of past results, last season a Borlase coxed four came second in the A final of National Schools’ Regatta, which shows the potential of the club. This season, a WJ4x- crew came 5th at Fours head, another good result illustrates the competitiveness and depth of this squad that I’m sure this crew will be consistent with.

Pangbourne College

This is another boat club with a good reputation, and a good sweeping one at that. It will be interesting to see if this group of girls can improve on the result from two years ago in this same category.

Predictions

I think this will be a tight race, but Borlase might just do enough to get the win. Either way, this will be an exciting race.
