Regatta Radio, rowing’s favourite radio station, will return to broadcast at this year’s National Schools’ Regatta. After a two year absence from the airwaves, the much-loved station will be providing the commentary for the three-day regatta, due to take place this weekend at Dorney Lake, the London 2012 Olympic rowing venue.
Calling on its expert team of pundits, the station will provide updates and analysis on every race from Friday through to Sunday on 87.7 FM.
Regatta Radio, originally founded to provide radio commentary at Henley Royal Regatta, missed last year’s event to make way for the first live TV broadcast since 1967.
Regatta Radio chairman Pete O’Hanlon said: “I’m delighted that Regatta Radio is now making a comeback. We’ve spent our sabbatical thinking about what makes Regatta Radio great and how we can continue to best complement the events we broadcast. We’ve found a fantastic opportunity in the National Schools’ Regatta, which is a truly special event for all school rowers, and we’re excited to once again bring the colour and spectacle of rowing to the 87.7 FM airwaves.”
George Thomas, one of the directors at the station, spoke of his delight at returning to rowing coverage. “We’re really happy to be back on air covering the largest regatta for juniors in the country. We’ve got a great team of commentators and are looking forward to bringing the racing to life on 87.7FM locally, and streaming on the web at www.nationalschoolsregatta.co.uk.”
Earpieces will be available for purchase onsite, whilst streaming will also be available via the National Schools’ Regatta website.
