Additional Information
At the CCSRA, these lads did the historic double, winning Men’s coxed fours and men’s coxless quads. They are currently on a training camp in Dusseldorf, Germany in preparation for Henley Royal Regatta. Here is a snippet of what has been said about their mini camp so far-
‘The weather has been cool, but ideal for training and sleeping—not complaining at all. The people here have been friendly and helpful. We’ve settled in to a daily schedule that includes our morning bike ride to the course for our first row—then a mid-day weight session, followed by lunch and a second outing before biking back to our “home” in the city… As always, our goal is to find our best race in England. The boys have been focused on striving for more boat speed than we arrived with. Their focus and commitment has been impressive. It’s not easy crossing six times zones and maintaining an positive training attitude day-in, day-out’.
They are the national champions in Canada and they look like a very, very powerful, well drilled crew; my pick of the foreign bunch. They’ve moved across to Europe to adjust to time-zones which is a wise move as some crews get caught out.
My prediction
This is a foreign entry that is easily on a par with the likes of Cornelius Tromp from last year; they’ll be a real handful for the British crews. Although Sir William Borlase, Northwich and Westminster look very good, I wouldn’t discount the Canadians. I think Saturday is achievable; their skill at side by side racing will determine their success from there on in.
