The culmination of the head season, Schools’ Head on the 18th March provides the opportunity for crews to size up their opposition before summer racing begins. Raced over around 7km these Championship Girls’ eights will be in fierce competition to claim the win.
Henley RC
This crew have posted consistent results this season placing 3rd at both Quintin Head and Hampton Head. They will be looking to challenge for the win on Wednesday and in particular to close the gap against Headington, a crew to which they lost by 20 seconds at the Quintin Head in January.
LEH BC
It seems that this squad have been racing matched boats so far this season having come 3rd and 4th in the WJ18 4+ event at Fours Head and then 7th and 8th in the 8+ event at Quintin Head. Having won this event at National Schools’ last May , they will no doubt hope to post an impressive result as they look to defend their title later this summer.
Latymer Upper School BC
Latymer have only raced once so far this season as an 8+, doing so at the Quintin Head where they came 4th behind Headington and Henley. As they once again race down the Tideway, the crew will need to improve on their last performance to challenge for the win.
Headington School BC
Headington have a strong set of results from Quintin Head having won the event, as well as a second boat placing 6th. They will look to build on this, and maintain the gap between them and their nearest rivals, Henley in order to claim the win in one of the final head races of the season before summer racing commences.
Prediction
This event comprises of a number of experienced crews so it is likely there will be some close results as they look to lay down a marker ahead of the regatta season. Following minimal racing so far this season, Headington seem to be the crew to beat but Latymer and Henley will be close competition.
