The time has finally come for the mother-of-all school’s head racing events! Schools head is right around the corner and this year’s J16 1st eights event offers a competition to look forward to with 11 crews battling it out over the classic boat race course. Remember your wellies !
King’s College School – 113
King’s College School performed very well at Hammersmith Head, coming second in the open eights and placing highly in a number of other events including fifth in the J16 eights. They also performed very well at the Fours Head winning the open junior coxed and coxless fours events. Definitely a crew to watch on the Tideway!
Reading Blue Coat School – 114
At the recent Hammersmith Head, Reading Blue Coat’s J18 eight performed very well placing fifth in the open junior eights amongst very strong competition such as Shiplake, Radley and Eton. Although they did not enter into any J16 events, their J15 eight performed similarly well placing sixth in their event. Although their J16s have not recently competed on the tideway, their club performance as a whole promises a strong performance this Monday.
Emanuel School – 115
Emanuel School entered a number of crews at Hammersmith Head, and gained a variety of results. Placing in the middle and bottom of their events, with their best-performing crew coming 5th in the WJ16 eights event. Although they have not performed exceptionally this season Emanuel’s experience on the tideway will place them in good stead for a strong result.
Bedford School – 116
Bedford School also competed at Hammersmith Head where their J16 eight placed 6th out of 16, losing out to the strong 1st eights of schools such as Eton, St Paul’s and Westminster. Their J18 and J15 crews performed similarly placing in the top and in the middle of their events.
Team Keane Sculling School – 118
At Hammersmith Head last month, Team Keane Sculling School entered a number of crews, as well as mixing with Parry’s Priory RC. Their J16 eight placed in the middle of their event, coming 10th out of 16 strong crews such as Eton College who placed 1st, and King’s College School beat them by a tiny margin of 0.9 seconds. Certainly a strong rowing program, their tideway experience should give them an advantage over many of the other crews, providing a strong chance at a result to be proud of.
Canford School – 119
Canford School recently performed very well at Henley Fours and Eights placing second in the J16 coxed fours, second in the J18 eight and fourth and sixth in the women’s J18 eight. A squad with a large breadth of skill and large number of crews, their J16 fours performance promises a strong eight on Monday.
1863 Club – 120
1863 Club entered three crews into Hammersmith Head where they had a mixture of results. They won the open junior coxed fours against crews such as Molesely and King’s College School however did not place very well in the J16 eight and open junior coxless quads events.
Pangbourne College – 122
Pangbourne College fielded two crews at the Fours Head earlier this year, placing in the middle of their events in the coxed and coxless fours events. Not the strongest school rowing program but their Fours Head performance shows they have potential in the eights this coming Monday.
Other crews
Crews from Monkton Combe School (121), The King’s School Cantebury(123) and Monmouth School(117) are also taking part in this event.
Predictions
I think Reading Blue Coat and King’s College School will be the strongest crews to look out for with Bedford, Emanuel and Team Keane Sculling Schoool competing very closely for the 3rd and 4th positions.
