Schools’ Head has arrived! This long-awaited, mammoth event seeks to test the full cohort of ambitious juniors in 2023. With many clubs and schools traveling from far and wide for this event, it promises to shake up the established pecking order of the regular Tideway competitors. With that said, these challenging crews will have their work cut out for them as they try to tackle those on their home water.
Sir William Perkins
After a strong performance at WEHORR the crew from Sir William Perkins seems a strong contender in this category. Hopefully, with this experience on the Tideway and their growing strength, they will be able to leave it all out on the water and take the victory this weekend.
St Pauls
St Paul’s Girls School have historically had great success with their eights programs, after winning SHORR last year in the J16 first 8’s category, and looks to have a good chance of challenging. The experience of their crew, and of their cox with a home-ground advantage puts them in a good position this weekend.
Godolphin and Latymer
Another crew with a strong result at Women’s Eights’ Head, Godolphin and Latymer are also in contention this year for this event.
Other entries
Other schools like Yarm School, Emmanuel School and Bedford Girls’ School who performed well in this event last year and have strong programs, are also sure to bring their strongest performance this weekend to make for an interesting event.
Predictions
With many of the main players competing in Championship eights this year, it frees up the podium positions, making this event anyone’s game. With that said, I would predict Sir William Perkins to get the win in this event with St Pauls and home players like Godolphin and Latymer.
