The first race of the regatta season in Scotland kicks off with the Scottish Rowing Spring Regatta. For many, this regatta will offer the first of many opportunities of the summer season to race over the official two kilometre distance. The regatta runs through a standard format of a time trial followed with semi-finals and finals. Ran over the 22-23 of April, the competition offers many different boat classes for all levels allowing clubs, universities, schools and colleges all to join in. Looking at senior women’s level racing we have a mixture of universities and clubs.
Edinburgh University BC
After a strong showing during the head race season, culminating in a tenth place at WeHORR, Edinburgh’s women squad will be hoping to build upon this success as they proceed towards BUCS regatta and further summer racing.
Glasgow University BC
Glasgow university also gave an impressive performance at women’s head of the river race, placing 79th overall. They also had a large turn out for Inverness Fours Head back in November 2022, alongside many of the clubs which will be racing this coming weekend.
St. Andrew’s University BC
The last major university expected to compete this coming weekend is St. Andrews. Placing a competitive 69th at Women’s Head of the River in March, they will be looking forward to closing the gap on Edinburgh University.
Others
Other universities that are expected to be competing this coming weekend are Dundee, Aberdeen, Strathclyde and Heriot-Watt. In addition to the student sport rowing competition, regular clubs will also be in attendance this weekend. Strathclyde park rowing club and St Andrew boat club are expected to be the best of the non-university clubs competing.
With warm, still weather being predicted for this weekend it will allow for competitive and exciting racing. Good luck ladies!
