This one will only demand a small proportion of my time as I can only preview two events…
J18 1x
This is a pretty decent entry, with two prime candidates to compete for the win. They both row on the Thames, compete in pink colours and made up the winning J182x double at Pairs Head. Got them yet? The impressive duo of Cam Kerr and Sam Meijer are my favourites to take the prize. Cam recently won the J181x event at the Weybridge Silver Sculls albeit Sam didn’t race. I make Sam Meijer the marginal favourite as, off past track record, he looks to have the slight edge over his fellow Westminster counterpart. Additionally, he starts in 8th place overall following his impressive performance last year, where he finished 2nd in J181x behind Seb Devereux. This may be crucial as he will have, for one thing, less boats to overtake and water conditions will be much better at the start of the race [Cam starts in 17th place].

Small field but the contingent from Latymer look strong, as they always do. I’d also like to correct my mistake on the last blog concerning Latymer’s coach. I mistakenly said that Hugo Gulliver still coached the girls but he has has moved on to coach the 1st VIII and senior boys at Latymer. I wish him and his charges all the best as success usually follows his footsteps quite smartly. However, back to Scullers Head. I think Berry from Latymer will win this. She came third at Henley LDS behind two BGS scullers but was 27 seconds ahead of 4th place and looked strong. Don’t rule out any of the Latymer scullers as they are a real force to be reckoned with in the Junior Rowing world but I think, on this occasion, Berry is too good for the rest of the field.
