Following an exhilarating weekend at the Irish Indoor Rowing Championships, the young rowers of Ireland are set to compete in another Head of the River event.
The Shandon Rowing Club’s Head of the River is scheduled for Saturday, January 25th, marking one of the first significant Head of the River races of 2025, and it boasts a full roster of enthusiastic participants.
In the women’s Junior 18 quads category, there are nine entries, with notable recognition for Muckross BC, who emerged victorious at the St. Michael’s Head of the River last October. Other distinguished clubs, including Skibbereen, Lee Valley, and Cork Boat Club, will also be represented, ensuring a highly competitive race. Shandon may also benefit from familiarity with their home course. Which crew will claim victory?
The women’s Junior 16 coxed quad is poised to be an exhilarating event that promises to captivate the audience. Following their fifth-place finish at the Irish Rowing Championships in July, Waterford are determined to secure a spot on the podium this year. As many of these crews are participating in their first race of the season together, they will be keen to assess their standing within their category as they prepare for the forthcoming regatta season.
Cork Boat Club and Shandon, having entered nearly every category, are likely to achieve numerous victories this Saturday, and so both are positioning themselves favourably for the upcoming competitive season.
