The Skibbereen Regatta promises to stage an intriguing contest in its J18 Singles, pitting some of the best young sculling talent across clubs in Ireland. Entries are from some of the most prestigious clubs, such as Skibbereen, Fermoy, New Ross, Killorglin, and Tralee; hence, it is bound to be a very exciting display of individual skill, strength, and endurance.
Skibbereen Rowing Club
As the host club and a dominant force in Irish rowing, Skibbereen Rowing Club will have a heavy representation from C. McCarthy and T. Burchill. Renowned for producing nationally and internationally competing athletes, the history at Skibbereen is quite impressive in sculling events. Traditionally, their rowers have been technically good and able to perform under pressure. Competing on home waters, Skibbereen will be keen to do well in the single sculls and show their class.
Fermoy Rowing Club
Fermoy Rowing Club will parade three entries to the start line: R. Condon, D. O’Connell, and A. O’Brien all have something different they can bring to the races. Based in County Cork, Fermoy has earned a reputation for having one of the more solid junior programs and are none too shy about investing in young scullers. Their crews regularly make A final line-ups across several boat categories and their scullers competing here will be keen to show just how well they can perform by doing justice to their training.
New Ross Rowing Club
New Ross Rowing Club will enter the J18 Singles with two promising scullers, L. Crotty and K. Phelan. This Wexford club has a proud tradition of developing gutsy competitors who hold their own in single-seat racing. Known for their competitive spirit and the ability to take on rough race conditions, New Ross will be keen to make an impression at this year’s regatta and contest the top of the podium in the single-seats.
Killorglin Rowing Club
The County of Kerry will be represented by Killorglin Rowing Club, who will enter a sculler by the name of C. Hynes, determined to keep the success tag on at the club credited for churning out talented athletes. Killorglin has built a reputation as a force to reckon with in Irish rowing, especially in individual events.
