Skibbereen
With this being Skibbereen’s own Head of the River, these strong Junior 18 girls – with Alannah Keane leading them down a familiar course – will be in to win it. At the Irish Championships in July, Skibbereen won this category, so these girls will have targets on their back this season.
Killorglin
Killorglin are yet another strong sculling club that has entered this category. We see a few returning names of girls who have now moved up after their win in the J16 4X+ category last July, featuring Chloe O’Sullivan, Fia O’Gorman and Sadhbh O’Sullivan. These girls won their category in July but can they do it again in the J18 category?
Lee valley
Lee Valley have yet to make their mark in the quad categories but with Autumn Nagle moving up from the Junior 16 category this year, will this be the season that Lee Valley can push on from the rest? With many new names cropping up for the boat club, I think they could have a promising season ahead, pushing on from their sixth-placed finish in the A-final of the women’s junior championship eight.
Prediction
Conclusively, despite this being Skibbereen’s own head of the river, I think that Killorglin could just pip them, as their crew will have trained together since the championships in July, with Lee Valley coming in at third.
