Sydney Rowing Club

On Monday 7th March 1870, a motion was carried in a meeting to form a club with the purpose of encouraging and transforming amateur rowing. Not but the next day, a securement of land adjacent to the Sydney Opera House was accepted and construction for the clubhouse was accepted.

154 years later, Australia’s oldest club has since been floated upstream to it’s present location in Abbotsford where Sydney Rowing Club aims to be the top centre for rowing development in the nation. With the purpose of developing national squad members, competing at Henley Royal Regatta and winning National Championship medals, the club’s goal is to give opportunities for every athlete to not only compete, but to be attain results at the highest level possible.

The senior squad encompasses athletes over the age of 18, competing in U21, U23 and Open, and Club competitions. With one of the best fleets in the country, SRC provides an environment for talented men and women to pursue selection for Senior and Underage World Championships. The club has been a regular attendee at Henley Royal Regatta, competing at almost every event since of the past twenty years. The men’s development squad is led by Irish World Champion Shane Mulvaney, while the women’s development side is overseen by U23 World Championship winning coach Lachlan Carter. Sydney boasts superb facilities on both land and water, with excellent individual coaching for personal growth.

The junior program for under 19 male and female athletes encompasses the same mentality as the senior squad, with a focus on development of individuals with great potential. The squad, led by Briton Paddy Graham also competes at the National Championships and Henley Royal Regatta, and works toward Australian junior selection. The ultimate goal is to build their juniors toward the senior program and provide their athletes with the tools to become elite-level rowers.

Sydney Rowing Club has invested a significant amount of time in a review its strategic plan for the 2024 to 2034 period, with the goal of securing the SRC’s reputation as the leading club in Australia.
