After a variety of cracking performances from the Henley girls four last year, I think they will be leading the field this weekend. With almost an identical line up to their victorious National School’s and HWR coxed four, they should be in the lead for this race. Shortly behind them is likely to be LEH and Sir William Borlase, who both have international medallists in their crews and were particularly close in the final of the National School’s coxless four, only 7 seconds apart with a strong cross tail wind. A key athlete for LEH will be Amy Polglase, having competed at the Coupe in the four and the eight for GB and at Home Countries in coxed fours, winning gold at both events. All four of the LEH girls are returners from their Championship Eight from National School’s and will no doubt be producing a quick time. For Borlase, their key athlete is Georgia Mulraine , having competed in the eight this summer for GB at Coupe and is still continuing to improve. With one of their other key athletes currently out for injury, they will be a crew to watch throughout the season.
Following these three crews I think is likely to be one of the Tideway based crews, such as the St Paul’s crew who’s JW4+ made it to the semi-final of HWR and Tideway Scullers who always produce strong crews. Other crews to look out for in the race include Molesey, who’s girls coxed four made it to the final of National School’s in 2014 with a much altered line up this year; and Kingston Grammar School – who consistently produce some very quick small boats in their girls squad.
