The JRN End-Of-Season Awards 22/23 – Junior Crew to Watch in 23/24 Winner

JRN are delighted to announce that Briony Wood of Glasgow Academy is our Junior Crew to Watch in 23/24.

To be totally honest, Briony was quite unlucky not to win the junior crew of the year award. Very few athletes can boast of a season like hers – multiple national wins, international acclaim at the GB-France match followed by a win at the Home International Regatta. She is now firmly established as one of the country’s foremost sculling talents and with three years left on her junior timeline, all eyes will be on the Scottish prodigy for her assault on European and World domination in the coming seasons. She is the athlete that everyone will be watching and looking forward to observing in the 23/24 season.

Her coach, Iain Somerside, commented: “Briony is a very focused athlete whose ability to fully understand and put into practice the technical sculling model is exceptional, especially in someone so young. Despite having no championship racing experience she put into practice three, strategically different, sculling races and executed perfect race plans to win her National Schools’ Regatta title. Her ability to focus and concentrate has accelerated her learning and allowed her to produce a high level of consistency in her rowing stroke. She also has an excellent power to weight ratio for someone her size.  I look forward to working with her in the future and seeing what she will achieve both domestically and internationally as she continues her rowing journey”.
