JRN are delighted to announce that Oxford Brookes’ Student Women’s Eight are our Student Crew of the Year.
As a whole, Oxford Brookes had a phenomenal season and their leading male and female crews were the stand-out performers in all categories they touched. However, their top women’s crew – coached by Hugo Gulliver – were undefeated in open competition all year (aside from WeHORR where a couple of national squad crews went a tad faster). Their victories at Henley Women’s Regatta in both Championship and Academic eights followed by a magnificent victory in the Island Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta cemented a stunning season at the summit of student rowing.
Hugo commented: “It was a fantastic season, winning in Ghent, Duisburg, at BUCS, Met and HWR, but it came down to a very tough race in the final on the outside station at HRR. That performance was the icing on the cake as the crew put everything together to get the job done on a fantastic HRR Sunday for Oxford Brookes, displaying the strength and depth of the Women’s and Men’s programmes now at Brookes.”
