Following the government’s announcement on the 22nd of February, British Rowing have provided further clarification as to what schools, clubs and universities can expect over the coming months.
8th March:
Step 1a will not significantly change much for rowing
- All facilities (for universities and non-school related institutions) must remain closed
- School clubs can return to a full training regiment, but only if using school facilities
- No indoor club activity and no on-water competition
29th March:
Outdoor organised sport will be allowed to return and will not be subject to limits on gathering sizes.
- All outdoor rowing can return, with no limits on gatherings. This means all crew rowing can return
- Intra-club competition can resume, for example seat racing and matrices
- Indoor club activity remains prohibited
*12th April:
Households will still be prevented from mixing indoors and so indoor training facilities may be used for individual exercise
- Covid-secure club facilities can reopen, with club-based hospitality provided outdoors
- Indoor rowing provisions will allow members of the same household to use club facilities, such as ergs and weight rooms. Multi-household training is still prohibited
- Competition between clubs may become possible, although further guidance is being sought by British Rowing
*17th May:
Organised COVID-Secure indoor training and group exercise training will become possible
- Indoor hospitality (adhering to the Rule of Six) can be provided
- Indoor group training can resume
- COVID-Secure Private Matches and Affiliated Competitions will be given the green light
*21st June:
We expect that the rowing community will be fully operational
- All standard rowing activity can resume
- Covid-secure protocols should still be adhered to – it will be clear closer to the time exactly what this entails
*Denotes that this is the earliest date we can expect the given phase to begin
