Founded in 2013, JRN is one of the largest rowing media platforms in the world. We have a team of over 140 writers, editors, social media executives, photographers and podcasters, committed to growing and broadening the voice of our sport. We have worked with a range of events and brands and delivered numerous successful campaigns across social and digital channels.

Tom set up JRN in 2013 and hasn’t looked back since. The website has grown and grown and with it has come an audience, expectations, teams, contacts, opportunities and incredible experiences. Tom works in private equity on a day-to-day basis but stays in touch with the rowing world through his role as a commentator and researcher for several of the UK’s largest events, including the National Schools’ Regatta, Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
Ed first joined the JRN junior team in 2018 ahead of National Schools’ Regatta. Over the years since, Ed has worked across several roles including building and leading our opinions and social media teams, and developing our photography group. Ed’s work at JRN now focusses on enabling our content teams though building and scaling our systems, tools and processes. Ed is a medical student in London, regular co-host on our podcast, race commentator and occasional coach.
Rosie started rowing in 2012 at the City of Bristol Rowing Club, after being inspired by the Olympics to take up the sport. Rosie rowed there for seven years and was a part of both the junior and senior section. Rosie led the Opinions Team for the 2021/22 season, the Columnists Team for the 2022/23 season and is now responsible for talent across JRN. This role will focus on developing the team's collective and individual style and ensuring that JRN output is as accurate and engaging as it can be. Rosie will also be responsible for overseeing JRN's organisational development, training and coaching.
Fergus started rowing at George Watson’s College in Edinburgh. Fergus attended Newcastle University for five years and served as Athletic Union Officer in his final 12 months. Having graduated from St Mary’s University, Twickenham with a Masters in Journalism, Fergus is one of the sport’s leading pundits and his voice is instantly recognisable as the charismatic host of The End of the Island podcast. He works at British Rowing as Digital Editor for Inside Indoor.
Amy started coxing in 2019 with her Cambridge college, going on to steer the Cambridge University Lightweight Women during the 21/22 season. Alongside working full-time, she spent a year during the 22/23 season covering women’s events for the Senior and Student Team at JRN, and moved into the role of Head of Racing Content for the 23/24 season. Now in her second season at the helm of this team, Amy's remit focuses on ensuring all of our UK-focused racing analysis is market-leading.
Alex is our Head of The Catch, managing the opinions writers and columnists. She started rowing in 2010 at Durham Amateur Rowing Club and had a successful junior career on the national and regional scene. Having joined the JRN writing team in 2021, Alex assumed control of all Catch-related content in 2023. She works full-time in UK private equity and is a Master’s graduate of King’s College London.
Rachel's junior rowing career included representation at Henley Royal Regatta and wins at numerous races, including the Vesta Scullers Head of the River. In five years of collaboration with JRN, Rachel has led the junior and opinions teams alongside a year spent writing. In 24/25 and in her second year at Harvard University, she steps into the newly-created Head of International role to run all of our non-UK racing content.
Ira started with JRN in 2021 by writing for the Junior team and was promoted to Junior Editor in 2023 and remains in that role for this year. Having just left Westminster School as the former Captain of Girl’s Water, she will be starting at Cambridge University, studying Natural Sciences.
Having come from a family with a large history of both British and Argentine rowing, Amelia learnt to row at Avon County Rowing Club near Bath. She joined JRN in 2022 as a way to share her love for the sport and spent two seasons as a writer before being promoted to take on joint junior editorship responsibilities. As well as writing, she commentated at the National Schools’ Regatta in 2023. Amelia has just finished studying for her A Levels and will be going on to university in September.
Phoebe is a former Captain of Boats at Headington School Oxford Boat Club and had a vastly successful junior career, winning the inaugural Prince Philip Challenge Trophy at Henley Royal Regatta in 2021. After contributing to our junior team for three years, including as Junior Editor for the 22/23 season, Phoebe is now jointly responsible for editing the Student + Senior section. Phoebe is studying civil engineering at the University of Bath.
Meg began rowing in 2021 with her university club and eventually became the women’s vice-captain. She then spent a season at the Tideway Scullers School, continuing her development as a rower. In 2023, Meg joined the student and senior racing content team as a writer, where her successful contributions earned her a promotion to joint sub-editor of this team for the 2024/2025 season.
Minty began writing for JRN in 2020, having heard of the opportunity from a fellow rower at Headington School. She went on to write for British Rowing and attend Henley Royal Regatta in 2021 and 2022. She was promoted to floating editor for the 23/24 season, editing both junior and senior previews, and reprises the role this season. She begins studying at the University of Exeter in September 2024, where she looks forward to picking up rowing again.
Having learnt to row in 2020, Becca went on to captain Newnham College Boat Club and take part in the GB Women's Development Programme. Becca joined JRN as an opinions writer in 2022, before obtaining her NCTJ gold standard journalism qualification. Becca will continue as the JRN Opinions Editor for the 2024-25 season.
Starting in 2020, Lawrence spent three years rowing at Hinksey Sculling School. After a rewarding junior career, he took a year out of his studies to train and race in New Zealand for the 23/24 season. It was at this time he also began writing for JRN as part of the junior team. Rounding out the season with national medals in both NZ and the UK, Lawrence is now looking forward to studying at Durham University, as well as commencing his International Editor role for 2024/2025.
Ben is a current member of the increasingly successful King’s College School Boat Club, and joins the editorial team as he finishes off his studies at school. He joined the JRN team for the 23/24 season, writing as part of the junior team, before joining the editorial team for the current season.
