Kicking off the Northern Rowing Long Distance Sculling series is Tyne LDS. The annual series brings together clubs from around the region, and with the opener being on the Tyne, one would expect many crews to turn up and gain valuable racing experience on tidal waters.
Junior Men’s Singles
J18 1X- Four Entries here, two from Chester Le Street, one from QEHS and one from Hexham. Although all competent scullers, there is one name that stands out, Adamson, from CLS. He went to junior worlds as a J17, racing in the 2x, and with his experience, there should be little competition, but on a river as unpredictable as the Tyne, nothing is certain.
J17 1X-Only two entries here, and should be an even match up-there is no real match up results, neither have raced much on the Tyne, so should be a battle of who can handle the conditions best.
J16 1X- A bumper entry of eight here, I will be predicting the Chester Le Street sculler Bowery to be in control of this race, especially after coming 10th at J16 trials in February last year, racing as a J15.
Junior Men’s Doubles
J18 2x- Only two entries here, the Tyne double look the stronger, as they have a very good knowledge of the course, and the named person having won the junior Tyne single scullers head, it should give them an advantage.
J17 2x- three entries, three equal entries, looks like a top entry from DARC, so they should be looking to win.
J16 2x-Only one entry so not much to say here
Junior Men’s Quads
J17 4x- A rivalry between QEHS and Hexham here, QEHS gained the advantage last season, but we will see what occurs this season
J16 4x- Three quads here, including an entry from Durham School. Looking at previous results it is likely to be a Durham ARC victory.
