WJ16 1x
There is an extremely large entry for this event, with a field of 23 scullers. I will try to preview the main contenders although many of the competitiors will have raced primarily in crew boats last season, so knowledge on their sculling abilities is limited.
Henley RC – O’Donohue, Crick and Hahn
All three of these scullers raced in Henley’s top boat last season, as part of their dominant WJ15 four who won National Schools & JIRR along with a quad who won silvers at National Schools and the British Championships. Henley has a solid history in producing fast scullers and these three should be up at the top of the pack.
Maidenhead RC – Sinnott, Harding, Holgate, Harris, Bird
Maidenhead has produced a dominate quad over the past few years, and these girls most recently won gold at the British Championships in the WJ15 4x+. They also finished 2nd in the WJ15 double and 3rd in the quad at national schools, behind Henley. Bird finished 5th in the WJ15 single at Brit Champs and this sculling experience will be very useful this weekend and may just give her an edge. Maidenhead have proved their ability in crew sculling boats, and so all of these scullers could challenge for the win.
Prediction – This race is looking to be a battle between Maidenhead and Henley, with any of their scullers in contention for the win. Also to watch out for are the three Lea RC scullers, having finished 5th in the WJ15 4x+ at British Champs, and the Reading and Eveham scullers who could be in the mix too.
