Wallingford Long Distance Sculls 2019 – Junior 16 Singles

The J16 single sculls is one of the most competitive events at Wallingford Long Distance Sculls. The athletes are starting to develop and with another season under their belt, and they are evolving into quality scullers. It is still early on in the season with everyone wanting to get a good result down the 4250m course to kick start the year in a positive way.

Star and Arrow Club

Having won the event last season, Star and Arrow Club will be hoping to emulate the same result this year. The junior Leander sculler, Vujosevic, had some success in the double scull last year and will be hoping to carry the momentum from last year into this season. It will be close but the Star and Arrow sculler will be hoping to get down the course in the fastest time.

Latymer Upper School Boat Club

Fielding six crews in the J16 single scull, Latymer Upper School Boat Club have a vast amount of talent and they will all be wanting to prove that they are the fastest boat coming out of the club. Merriman and Mariotti are the two crews to watch and it will be fascinating to see which of the two scullers sets the fastest time.

Maidenhead Rowing Club

Four Maidenhead crews are set to compete in the J16 single sculls and in the same way as Latymer Upper, they will all be wanting to prove that they are the fastest crew to come out of their own boat club. Bird will be fast and will hope to compete well against the other top clubs and come out on top of all the Maidenhead crews.

Radley College Boat Club

One of the highest-profile boat clubs in this event, Radley are coming to this event to win. They have entered a number of crews and will hope to come away with most of their athletes in the top half of the results. Listed as Radley’s A crew, Rimmer will be hoping to prove that he deserves this title and finish at the top of the timetable.

Others

It is set to be a competitive event and with so little regattas so far this season it is hard to pick any clear favorites. Abingdon’s Langdon is one to watch with Reading Rowing Club, Ross Rowing Club and Newark Rowing Club all in with a chance if they can row the course well.

It is clear to see from the list of entries that clubs and schools are using this head as an opportunity to test the competitiveness of their squads. Many have entered multiple crews and internal competition will be fierce as they battle to be ‘top dog’ at their boat club.
