Wallingford Long Distance Sculls 2019 – Women’s Junior 16 Singles

As regatta season drew to a close, the rowing community began preparations for head season and the intense winter training that is to follow. The season was kicked off with a bang last weekend at Chester Long Distance Sculls and now as a continuation of head season, Wallingford Long Distance sculls has, as always, an overflowing draw. Competitive levels are high and the WJ16 1x alone has 41 entries. However, the question is, who will bring home the win?

Maidenhead Rowing Club – MAGEE

Coming 2nd at last year’s Wallingford LDS as a WJ15 1x, the potential for a medal is high. Although moving up and age category can bring with it a few new contestants to the field, perhaps she will improve on last year’s result to bring home that medal with pride.

Maidenhead Rowing Club – CARPENTER

With a spot in the A Final at British Rowing Junior Championships 2019 in the WJ15 1x, Carpenter has certainly shown promising signs. As the Maidenhead ‘A’ boat, perhaps she will finish the course in the fastest time and secure the win.

Headington School Oxford – FAULKNER

Faulkner is Headington School’s A crew, suggesting that she is their fastest girl. Having seen lots of success in the past, I would not be surprised if she challenged for the top spot and brought home that medal.

Henley Rowing Club – VICKERMAN

It appears that during her WJ15 regatta season, Vickerman saw a lot of success. At Junior Sculling Regatta 2019, racing as a WJ15 1x, Vickerman went back home champion of the event with a 1st place medal. Perhaps this experience and mental strength will help this Henley-based rower to take it home and win.

Predictions

I think that although she has found the most success over the standard 2000m course, Vickerman (Henley Rowing Club) perhaps has the highest chance of winning. However, said that Magee (Maidenhead Rowing Club) has done well on this course before and that knowledge could potentially edge her up a spot into that 1st place position.
