Wallingford Long Distance Sculls 2021 – WJun 2x

Wallingford Long Distance Sculls marks the first crew boat event of the year, making it a perfect opportunity for schools and clubs to see how their athletes are getting on in the early stages of the season. With most clubs entering multiple crews into the WJ18 2x event, there will no doubt be lots of internal competition as well as external competition.

Henley Rowing Club

Henley Rowing Club have entered two doubles under the names Artherton and Wild. Henley had a very good 2021 season in the J16 events, coming 3rd in the Girls Quads and 1st in the Girls Second Quads at the 2021 National Schools Regatta. Henley have great pedigree when it comes to sculling, and these two crews are ones to look out for.

Lady Eleanor Holles

Lady Eleanor Holles have entered 6 crews into the WJ18 2x event, which seem to be mostly made up of their J16 8+ and their J16 4x which came 6th and 28th respectively at the 2021 National Schools’ Regatta. LEH also have a strong history in head races, which ought to put them in good stead for the weekend.

Other entries also include Stratford-Upon-Avon Boat Club and two doubles from Wallingford Rowing Club. Wallingford will have the advantage of home water this weekend, which could potentially see them challenge LEH and Henley.

Prediction

Henley look likely to take victory this weekend. I’m predicting a one-two finish for them, followed by LEH, but this is not to discount the potential challenge from elsewhere.
