Wallingford Long Distance Sculls will be competed over a 4250m stretch of the River Thames, finishing at the Oxford University boathouse. The event is being held on the 1st of October and will attract crews from across the country.
Maidenhead Rowing Club
Maidenhead has entered one boat for this event and they have had a strong 21/22 season in the quad, managing 5th place at the Junior Sculling Head and 20th at the National Schools’ Regatta. This shows that they seem to perform better over longer distances, putting them in strong contention for the win.
Radley College Boat Club
Radley College has put one quad forward for this event. Despite not much being seen from a Radley quad last season, the reputation that the club has made for itself with frequent wins at Henley Royal Regatta and many juniors competing in GB v France, it would be impossible to write Radley off.
Sir William Borlase Grammar School Boat Club
Sir William Borlase has entered two boats for this event after a highly successful season in the quads in 2021/22. They placed 3rd at the National Schools’ Regatta and 3rd again at the British Junior Rowing Championships. Despite the longer distance for this race, these results show they will be strong competitors for the win in this event.
St Paul’s School Boat Club
St Paul’s has also entered two boats in the hope of continuing their club’s constant run of junior success, with them winning the Junior Men’s 8+ at Henley last season for the 7th time in the club’s expansive history. These excellent records for St Paul’s juniors show that they will be hard to beat in this event.
Prediction
This event is filled with strong entries and clubs that have performed exceptionally at national events. However, I predict St Paul’s BC for the win due to their outstanding junior rowing programme.
