Walton Rowing Club is located in prime rowing country, on the River Thames between Molesey and Weybridge. The club boasts a relatively new boathouse built-in 2010, with all the facilities one expects from a rowing club these days. The club was formed in 1927 and has grown from strength to strength, with their first appearance at Henley Royal Regatta in 1930, international honours and even a win at HRR in 1971.
Some notable members include Olympic champion Steve Trapmore, and current GB squad members Matthew Tarrant, Morgan Bolding and Angus Groom. Walton caters for all rowing levels, from those wishing to reach the Olympics to those just wanting to go for a casual row at the weekends. They are open to members of all ages and walks of life, including offering holiday memberships for students.
Walton is particularly keen on supporting their junior squad, evidenced by an impressive list of international honours for juniors and a junior squad of over 100 members. A large team of volunteer coaches lead the juniors, aiming to provide as much one-to-one attention as possible while maintaining the ‘fun’ aspect of rowing. The club runs camps in the holidays during Easter and the summer which are a great way to get involved, although are generally over-subscribed!
The masters squad is also thriving, with branches for competitive and non-competitive rowers. On the competitive side, the club has seen recent successes at Henley Masters Regatta, British Masters Championships, and Tideway heads.
All in all, Walton is a fantastic rowing club for the local community, but particularly good for juniors and those in the early days of their rowing career. However, the club facilitates rowing, training, and competing at any level, meaning you can do anything at WRC.
