As the racing season begins, Weybridge Silver Sculls shall provide an opportunity for athletes to set the tone for the season to come. The 3300m course will run from Little Wier to Elmbridge Canoe Club.
In division 1, twelve J17 scullers will be racing down the track. Clubs racing in this division include St George’s College, Barn Elms, Molesey BC and Walbrook. Three scullers are returning from last year’s J16 event, Isaac Williams placed 9th out of 26 scullers, Georgy Zavyalov placed 13th, and Jamie Leppard placed 5th. It will be interesting to see how these three scullers have progressed since last season. I predict Leppard will take the win in this division, however, St Georges college will provide some tough competition as they have 7 scullers entered.
In division 3, there are five entries from Burway RC, Walbrook, and Radnor House. Nathaniel Dawson of Burway RC is a returner from last year’s J16 event where he placed 16th out of 26. Austin Finlayson is another returner from last year’s event, he placed 3rd out of the 26. I predict that Finlayson will win the division as well as the event (if conditions are favourable).
With few races last season, the win could be up for grabs by a multitude of unknown scullers and only time will tell who emerges as the victor.
