As we are starting to get back to some form of normality of racing we have the 3rd official race of the season this weekend which is Weybridge Silver Sculls. The course has certain parts where there is slight bends and mostly straight parts of the river, except the tight bend under Walton Bridge where these J17s will have to take extra care for them to have a chance of taking the win this weekend. There is only 5 crews entered into this weekend so it’s all for the taking as they battle it out on the thames.
Walton RC – E Zeghibe/ R Hawes
These 2 boys from Walton will have trained non-stop on this stretch for the lead up to this race as their boathouse is just outside the start line. Both of these lads have won this event last year in the J16 2x winning by a blistering 21 seconds. Looking at these past results these boys will have a lot to prove to retain their success at this competition.
Burway RC – A Finlayson / N Dawson
Burway has a big reputation for junior rowing, as coaching is voluntary, these boys from Burway will be able to give Walton and Barn Elms a good competition this weekend. These 2 boys have most likely been training 4 times a week for the lead up to Silver Sculls so they will be highly trained for the Silver Sculls.
Barn Elms RC – I Williams / C Blagburn
Barn Elms has a big value for their juniors as they have multiple rowing courses for development and an junior performance squad to separate the developing from the high performers. With only 1 crew from this club entered in this category, they will have a lot of focus heading into this weekend.
Prediction:
Obviously with the current climate it is always hard to compare the non existent results from last season to now, so this is my opinion on what is going to happen this weekend.
1st – Walton RC
2nd – Barn Elms RC
3rd – Burway RC
