Weybridge Silver Sculls 2020 – WJ17 1x Preview

After the successful running of Pairs Head last weekend, our next competition is already upon us. Weybridge Silver Sculls is running this Saturday with six singles competing over the 3,300m course in the women’s J17 category. These comprise of 2 singles racing from both Tideway Scullers School and Team Keane and one single being entered from both Radnor House School and St George’s College BC. With quite a few singles racing in this category it should make for some promising and exciting competition out on the river.

Tideway Scullers School
In this category, Tideway Scullers have chosen to enter two singles made up of Scarlette Rijkse and Emilia Regan. After her performance last weekend at Pairs Head in the winning double, Emilia Regan appears to be a strong competitor in this race and should hopefully bring some exciting racing onto the course. Scarlette Rijkse appears to also have some racing experience after competing at the National Schools’ Regatta in the J15 girls’ coxed quad. With two experienced racers competing from Tideway Scullers it should hopefully make for a high calibre of racing being seen this weekend.

Radnor House School
Radnor House School has entered one single into the J17 category of Imogen Parker Elms. She appears to have had prior racing experience in sculling boats competing at the National Schools’ Regatta in a J15 coxed quad. Now a J17, this shows Imogen Parker-Elms has had experience rowing in sculling boats and so should be coming into this weekend hopefully bringing a strong performance.

St George’s College Boat Club
One single made up of Nicole Clatworthy is racing on behalf of St George’s College BC. Nicole Clatworthy has had racing experience competing at the National Schools Regatta in the J15 eight. We will have to see if her experience in sweep boats is transferable into her sculling coming into this weekend’s racing.

Team Keane
After competing last weekend at Pairs Head, Team Keane already have racing experience under their belt for this year. They are racing 2 singles in the event composed of Amelie Raymond and Ellie Atkinson. Amelie Raymond performed well last weekend in the junior women’s double at pairs head placing second and she also competed last year in the j15 coxed quad at National Schools Regatta. After some strong racing last year Team Keane’s singles look to be bringing some exciting racing to the course.

Overall due to their performance at Pairs Head last weekend I predict it to be a challenge for top spot between Emilia Regan from Tideway Scullers and Amelie Raymond from Team Keane. However, due to it being so soon back competing after a long break I expect there will be some strong racing throughout the category and should be a good example of which clubs managed to keep up with their lockdown training.
