Wycliffe Small Boats Head 2021 – J18 1x

Wycliffe Small Boats Head, one of the lesser-known head races situated on the Gloucester Sharpness Canal. A relatively small field of just 9, J18 singles will race this 2500m course. Queen’s Park High School, The Kings school, Worcester and Hereford Cathedral School all having some quality scullers entered.

Queen’s Park High School

James Cox is a well accomplished sculler who will be making the trek from the north to battle for the win. Coming 3rd in his final back at the British Rowing Junior Championships last season and more recently winning the J18 quad at Agecroft Head. He is a strong favourite to take the win on Saturday.

The Kings School, Worcester

With 4 scullers entered there will certainly be some inter club competitiveness between these young athletes. Luke Beever leads off the field and I predict he will claim top spot of the Worcester boys. Both Luke and Jack Barclay were in the championship boy’s quad at the National School’s Regatta who came 10th overall. Bringing this experience and skill is a big advantage over other scullers they will be racing.

Hereford Cathedral School

Both these boys were in the exceptional J16 quad last season that had great success winning at the Nation School’s Regatta and the British Rowing Junior Championships. In addition to that also racing at Henley as J16 is an amazing achievement. Definite contenders for the win and potentially even a 1,2 on the cards. Coming from such a strong season last year I am sure they will want continue their form now we are deep into the winter season

Predictions

Undeniably a tough one to call, with all these scullers having such strong results in the past, we know they are all of a high standard, it will be won by a small margin. My prediction is that James Cox will take the win, followed by Luke Beever and third will go to William Morgan Jones of Hereford.
