For the first time in two years Wycliffe Small Boats Head returns for its 42nd edition. With no entries into J18 4+ the Op 4+ is dominated by junior crews. Of the 5 crews entered into the category only one is not a junior crew. With head season now in full swing this relatively short 2500m course will provide some good fast racing for the crews competing.
Stratford-Upon-Avon BC (D Edwards)
The only senior crew in the category the added years of experience of this crew compared to the other entries could prove be a blessing or a burden. D Edwards does indeed have experience on the Wycliffe course having raced in Mas4+ the last time the event was held in 2019.
Bryanston School (H Le Seur)
Bryanston have only raced at a few events this year but their most recent entry was at Totnes Autumn Head where one of their fours places 6th overall. This bodes well for Bryanston on Sunday if this is that same four.
Kings School Worcester (J Launder)
The Kings School Worcester have had some good results over the past year. Their 1st quad placed 4th in the B final at last years NSR and they had 2 athletes representing the club at the GB junior trials. It will be interesting for the club to see how this four does to see what the rest of the season could hold for them.
Shrewsbury School (C Marsh) (H Rees-Pullman)
Shrewsbury are the only club with two entries into the category. Shrewsbury have competed at some major head races so far this season including Fours Head and more recently Wallingford Fours and Eights. This racing experience on some longer courses will stand them in good stead heading into the weekend.
With only 5 boats entered its really anyones guess as to who will come out on top. The four junior crews may have fresher legs but it could be the experience of the senior crew which leads them to victory but I’m sure the juniors will have something to say about that.
