Wycliffe Small Boats Head 2021- WJ15 4x

Wycliffe Small Boats Head WJ15 4XWycliffe Small Boats, another head back on the list after a long season of very few events. The course itself is only 2500m which will be a breeze for these girls who are probably used to racing a lot further than this in past races. Despite the travel many crews from the Thames area have decided to take the trip up and will be up against some tough local rivals. The canal itself is fairly navigable so should be a perfect chance to show what they have before regatta season kicks off next year.

Henley RC

Henley have always been known to be a serious force in junior girls rowing, with two WJ15 4X’s entered the depth of the squad is really shown. I believe many if not all of these girls raced at the Henley Long distance sculls placing 7th in the quad and 1st and 2nd in the WJ15 doubles. Pushing on from those girls I’m sure these two quads will be able to show all they have to give.

Wallingford RC

A fellow Thames rival to Henley, Wallingford are making the journey to Wycliffe this weekend. Again racing in the Henley sculls, Wallingford placed 3rd, 10th and 12th in the WJ15 2X and 3rd in the WJ15 4X. I think Wallingford are going to really challenge Henley’s reign of the top spot for this race and further on in the season.

Stratford upon Avon

Stratford upon Avon had two quads racing at The Henley Sculls placing both 8th and 9th so equally have a good amount of experience coming into this race. In recent years Stratford Upon Avon have been growing and growing and this is being reflected in all their squads so will be interesting to see how they fair against some other top crews in the country.

Hereford Cathedral school

Until the past year or so Hereford Cathedral school has been fairly small with little regatta presence, in the past year the j16 boys quad have gone from strength to strength leading the club to new heights with the influence from last season I wouldn’t be surprised to see these girls excelling and beating some longer established clubs.

Other clubs racing this weekend include Queens Park High School, Kings school Worcester, Shrewsbury school, Monmouth comprehensive school, ross rowing club and royal grammar school Worcester. I’m sure these girls will also be able to produce some good results and hopefully some surprise performances to shock the top crews.

Predictions

My predictions for the top three this weekend would be Henley, Wallingford and possibly a battle for third with Queens Park Highschool, Stratford upon Avon and Hereford Cathedral school.
