Relatively short for a heads’ race, the 2500m course in Wycliffe provides a simple enough, straight-line course for these coxless quads to navigate.
Henley Rowing Club
Henley RC have entered a pair of matched quads which comprise crews who would usually row together in the 1st VIII; HEN-A Macartney and HEN-B Eltze. Having amassed a vast range of experience and success throughout a variety of boat classes, most recently at Wallingford Regatta where the VIII won by over 1 minute, these crews are sure to set a high standard and are looking strong for a win. Their practice together in the VIII holds them in good stead for the 4x, where their sculling is sure proove as strong as their sweeping.
Queen’s Park High School Rowing Club
Entering a scratch crew of 3 J16s and a J15, containing: Grace Nugent, Amelie Privat, Sienna Taylor and Freya Cossons at bow, QPHRC is looking to use Wycliffe Regatta as a valuable source of experience. Clearly a very accomplished sculler, last year Grace Nugent qualified for Junior Inter-Regional Regatta in a single, looking to represent the North-West in an event which said to be the start of an international pathway. All members of the crew have been making good use of the winter season and have had signifcant improvements in their fitness and technique, which hold them in good stead for the race!
Other Entries
Another boat club entering two crews, KSW-Nosworthy and KSW-Cartelet, into this event is The King’s School, Worcester. With one of their WJ18s recently having received a rowing scholarship to Stanford, the baton is passed to the WJ16s to continue the success. Rounding up the last of this boat class is Avon Country RC – entering a single crew of AVN-Greenwell.
Predictions
The nature of rowing is such that not much can ever be predicted with 100% accuracy, but it seems evident that either of the Henley crews are favourites for the win – exactly which remains to be seen…
