As the weather draws colder with the dreaded start of winter training, the crews are hitting their stride as Heads season is in full swing. It’s another small category, though, with only three clubs, two of which having two entries.
Henley RC
I’m not afraid to admit it: Henley have been going from strength to strength this season. Their coxed four won in the Wallingford Head very recently, and their P. Jamieson came a commendable 28th place in the ever-pertinent GB Trials in Boston. Earlier, they even placed both first and second in the 4+ category at the Fours Head — E. Wild, who strokes their four this weekend, also stroked the winning 4- there. I had wondered if Henley would come back swinging after their defeat in the eights at Henley Royal over the summer: there’s your answer.
King’s Sch Worcester
Less to write home about here, unfortunately. Stroking their four is I. Trow, who also stroked their quad at Henley LDS recently, which placed 6th out of 15. Despite their relative success there, we’ve seen less of their sweep as they were apparently absent from Fours Head.
Haberdasher’s Monmouth Sch
Monmouth have gone mostly under the radar for a while now, save for an entry or two this season. The relative lack of results gives little indication as to what their fours will be like, but since they’ve put two crews out it can be assumed they’re feeling confident.
Prediction
Given their winning streak in both coxed and uncoxed fours this season, I’d say Henley is a shoe in for the top spot. King’s are likely to take second, but a surprise maverick performance from Monmouth could turn the tables.
