Domestic Rowing:

“The Committee is committed to staying true to our founder Desmond Hill OBE’s wishes to organise a regatta ‘to provide wider experience and competition for juniors in school’.”

NSR Committee

This week’s big news of the junior world comes from the National Schools’ Regatta planning committee’s chambers. Published on Thursday, their proposal for NSR 2021 includes two events to balance the desire for exciting racing, and public health concerns.

The first regatta, taking place at Dorney lake in May, will see only J16 to J18s compete, across what is likely to be a slimmed-down set of Championship-only events. The committee’s key goals are to ensure parity both cross genders and between sweep and sculling events.

The second regatta, taking place in late September, will provide J14 to J16 competitors the opportunity to compete at the highest level. The proposal for the ‘Youth Festival’ includes suggestions that the racing format may break with tradition, offering “a fun, multi-distance event with a difference!”

On the National from, it’s two-time Olympic champion making waves with her announcement that she intends to rejoin the Olympic squad in time for the reschedules Tokyo Games. Writing on Instagram, Glover told fans “to be the first mother to make an Olympic team for British Rowing, and the thought of being able to prove to my children that they can achieve anything is a huge motivation, and I’m looking forward to sharing my journey with you.”
