Saturday Reviews:
Yale USA vs University of London
Yale USA started this semi-final fast, clearly overrating the University of London crew. Despite this, the London girls were in control by the end of the island leading by 2/3 of a length. But by the 1/4 mile marker, Yale were closing the gap, rowing through the London crew to lead by 1/2 a length by Fawley. The London crew was not giving up however, gaining on their competition as the crews passed 3/4 mile marker. Both crews picked it up for a strong sprint to the finish as they passed the mile and 1/8 marker, but the London crew couldn’t get back to the Yale girls who held their 1/2 length lead past the progress board and extended it over the line.
Oxford Brookes University ’A’ vs Brown University USA
Both crews had a clean start for the second race, with the Brown USA crew just edging ahead as they came off the island. By the 1/4 mile marker they held a lead of 1/2 a length, which they extended past Remenham Farm to 1 length by the 1/2 mile point. The Oxford Brookes girls weren’t giving in, but struggle to compete with the Brown crew who were over-rating them as the crews cam last Fawley, the american lead up to 1 and 1/2 lengths. They maintained this gap as they came past Upper Thames rowing club, Oxford Brookes putting up a strong fight but ultimately finishing 1 and 1/2 lengths behind Brown University.

The all-American final of the Island Cup is set to be a great race, with both crews making their way comfortably to the semis but being forced to race up to the line today. It looks likely that the lead will change hands throughout the race, given the respective strength of each crew. If their performances today are anything to go by, you won’t want to miss this one!
